Manage your pictures

If you have photographs on your computer and when you double-click on them they open in Internet Explorer or Photo Editor ( a very basic program that comes with Windows), it is difficult to organise them or to alter them (brighten, crop etc.).

Picasa 2 looks like a good program to solve the problem! It will:

  • Scan your whole computer and show you every photo it holds and help you organise them.
  • Let you click on one photo so that you can crop it, rotate it, straighten it, change the brightness etc.
  • Make an instant slideshow
  • Help you backup all your pictures to a CD.
It's owned by Google and best of all, it's FREE! from http://www.picasa.com/

Go Back quicker and get a tan!

When you are on the Internet and want to go back to the last page you visited, normally you would move the mouse all the way up to the toolbar to click on the Back button. Try just pressing the Backspace key on the keyboard to do the same thing! It will save you half a second - not much, but over a lifetime this is two weeks saved (possibly spent on a beach on the Med.)

Try Firefox - a better browser?

At the Workshop, we've always used Internet Explorer to look at webpages, as has most of the world, but you don't have to use it. More and more people are trying Mozilla Firefox which is
  • Good at blocking pop-up adverts
  • Very secure as it blocks many of the programs that try to download without your permission
  • Allows you to zoom in and out to read text on the page easily
It's a free download from http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ (Just click on the link to start downloading)

You can run it as well as Internet Explorer and compare the two. Let us know what you think.
